Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in July 1990, X-Men Classic #48 served as a reprint vehicle for original material from the 1970s, specifically featuring the reprint of X-Men #112. This series was designed to provide readers with an opportunity to revisit the foundational stories of the Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum era, often including new cover art and supplemental material that added depth to the original narratives.
The cover art for this issue was produced by artist Michael Golden, who was widely celebrated for his dynamic compositions and distinct illustrative style during this period. Golden's work on the X-Men Classic run was generally well-received by fans, as his modern sensibilities breathed new life into the retro-themed reprints, bridging the gap between the classic Bronze Age storytelling and the high-energy aesthetic of 1990s comic book art.
