X-O Manowar #9

X-O Manowar number nine was published by Valiant Comics in 1992 during the publisher's formative early years. The series follows Aric of Dacia, a fifth-century Visigoth warrior who is abducted by aliens and bonded to a powerful, sentient suit of bio-mechanical armor before returning to the modern era. This specific issue is part of the original run that established the Valiant Universe's unique blend of historical fantasy and science fiction.

The art and narrative direction of early Valiant titles were heavily influenced by the editorial oversight of Jim Shooter, who emphasized interconnected storytelling and consistent character development. The armor's design was conceptualized to be both alien and ancient, contrasting the visceral combat style of a barbarian with high-tech weaponry. While the series became a cornerstone of the 1990s independent comics boom, the ninth issue is noted for its contribution to building the escalating stakes of Aric’s ongoing struggle against his extraterrestrial captors and contemporary adversaries.
