Where it came from
Yankee Assistant no Ashizawa-kun ni Koi wo Shita, serialized in the seinen magazine Young Animal, follows the comedic and often heartwarming workplace interactions between a gentle office worker and his imposing, delinquent-looking assistant, Ashizawa. This volume, the second in the series, continues to explore the character growth and budding professional relationship of the protagonists as they navigate the humorous misunderstandings inherent in their dynamic.
Created by the manga artist Ryousuke Fuji, the series is characterized by its lighthearted subversion of the 'yankee' (delinquent) trope. Fuji’s clean, expressive art style emphasizes the contrast between Ashizawa’s intimidating exterior and his surprisingly considerate nature, a design choice intended to emphasize the theme that true character often hides behind first impressions. The series has been recognized for its gentle humor and its contribution to the workplace comedy genre in contemporary manga.
