Zenith #2

Zenith #2 was published in 1987 as part of the groundbreaking superhero series created by writer Grant Morrison and artist Steve Yeowell for the British anthology magazine 2000 AD. The series emerged during a period of creative resurgence in British comics, intended as a cynical, postmodern deconstruction of the superhero archetype that reflected the cultural landscape of 1980s Thatcherite Britain.

The visual identity of the series was defined by Yeowell’s clean, minimalist linework, which offered a stark contrast to the more visceral and gritty aesthetic dominant in contemporary American comics of the era. Zenith, the series' titular protagonist, was characterized by his vanity and pop-star persona, a design choice meant to satirize the commodification of celebrity culture and the vacuum of morality often found in traditional caped crusaders.
