Zenith, published by Fleetway beginning in 1987, emerged as a seminal work in the British comic book invasion of the late 1980s. Created by writer Grant Morrison and artist Steve Yeowell, the series was designed to subvert the traditional tropes of the superhero genre by framing costumed heroes within the cynical, celebrity-obsessed landscape of Thatcher-era Britain. Zenith, the protagonist, was depicted as a self-absorbed pop star rather than a moral crusader, a characterization that served as a sharp critique of the era's pervasive egoism.

Issue number three arrived as the series was finding its footing within the pages of 2000 AD. Steve Yeowell’s clean, minimalist aesthetic provided a stark contrast to the gritty, highly rendered styles prevalent in American comics at the time, helping to define the series' unique visual identity. The issue was received as a sophisticated expansion of the title's overarching narrative, cementing the reputation of Morrison and Yeowell as key figures in bringing a more adult, postmodern sensibility to the medium of British serialized comics.
