Where it came from
Herald of Ravages was released as part of the Local Game Store (LGS) promotional series, a program designed by Wizards of the Coast to bolster grassroots engagement within independent hobby shops. These specific promos are distributed to tournament organizers and shop owners to reward active participation, serving as tangible incentives for players to frequent their local retail spaces. This initiative reflects a broader corporate strategy to sustain brick-and-mortar ecosystems amidst the increasing shift toward digital play and large-scale online marketplaces.
The design of the card leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the broader Ravnica-themed sets. As an action card, the artwork focuses on chaotic, expansive imagery intended to convey a sense of world-altering power. The piece was commissioned to maintain visual consistency with the card game's established lore while providing collectors with a unique, limited-availability printing that distinguishes it from standard expansion releases.
