Sink Below

Sink Below was originally introduced in the Welcome to Rathe set, the debut product for the Flesh and Blood trading card game released by Legend Story Studios in 2019. Designed by James White and his team in New Zealand, the game sought to emphasize a tactical, hero-centric combat experience. As a defense reaction, Sink Below was crafted to provide players with a nuanced way to mitigate damage after an opponent has already committed their attack, adding a layer of strategic depth that defines the game's core loop.

The card was later included in History Pack 1, a curated compilation designed to provide newer players with accessible versions of staple cards from the game's early years. By reprinting essential defensive utility cards like Sink Below with a consistent aesthetic, the developers aimed to stabilize the competitive environment and ensure that fundamental mechanics remained available to the growing player base. The artwork, consistent with the gritty, high-fantasy aesthetic of the Rathe setting, reflects the game's focus on grounded, visceral martial combat.
