Where it came from
Spears of Surreality is a common action card from the Monarch set, the second expansion released for the Flesh and Blood trading card game in 2021. Designed by Legend Story Studios, the set was conceived to introduce a high-fantasy, pseudo-medieval aesthetic centered around the conflict between Light and Shadow, with a specific focus on the class mechanics for the Warrior, Illusionist, Runeblade, and Shadow Brute.
The card features artwork commissioned to reflect the ethereal and volatile nature of the Shadow talent. In the game's competitive landscape, this common-rarity action serves as a functional utility tool, contributing to the game's deep tactical deck-building requirements rather than serving as a marquee centerpiece. It was intended to support the aggressive playstyle of Shadow decks, fitting into the broader artistic direction of the Monarch release which emphasized darker, more surreal visual themes.
