Provenance

Where it came from

The Starting Stake card, identified as LGS228 within the Local Game Store Promos series, was released as a promotional incentive to support independent tabletop gaming hubs. These cards were distributed to retailers to bolster organized play programs, providing a tangible reward for participants who frequented local shops. By creating exclusive, limited-availability mechanics, the publishers aimed to strengthen the connection between community hobby spaces and their player bases.

The design of this action card reflects a utilitarian aesthetic common to the broader promo set, prioritizing clear mechanical readability for tournament play. While the artistic direction leans toward minimalist fantasy motifs consistent with the franchise's visual identity, the focus was placed primarily on utility within the game's evolving meta. It was received by the community as a functional tactical piece, valued by players for its role in enabling specific board-state adjustments during high-stakes competitive matches.
