Where it came from
The 2017 D23 Expo served as the fifth iteration of The Walt Disney Company’s official fan convention, held at the Anaheim Convention Center. This event was designed to celebrate the company’s vast intellectual properties, ranging from its animation legacy to its acquisitions in the Marvel and Star Wars universes. The gathering was positioned as a premium experiential showcase, intended to foster direct engagement between Disney’s creative leadership and its most dedicated fan base through exclusive panels, archives displays, and merchandise launches.
The branding and design identity of the 2017 expo leaned into a modern, sleek aesthetic that emphasized the scale of the company’s corporate footprint. Designers focused on cohesive, immersive environments that integrated diverse franchises under a singular event banner. The reception was marked by significant media attention, as it provided a stage for major announcements regarding upcoming films, park developments, and the then-nascent plans for the Disney+ streaming service, solidifying its status as a cornerstone event for industry enthusiasts and collectors alike.
