Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Disney series, Alebrije Dante (number 1086) represents the spirit guide form of the dog character from the 2017 Pixar film, Coco. In the film's mythology, alebrijes are brightly colored, fantastical creatures that serve as spiritual guides in the Land of the Dead. This figure captures Dante’s transformed state, characterized by his vibrant wings, jagged patterns, and crystalline, multi-colored appearance, reflecting the rich aesthetic of Mexican folk art that inspired the film’s visual language.
The design team at Funko aimed to translate the complex, translucent textures of the screen-accurate alebrije into their signature stylized vinyl form. The figure maintains the core structural silhouette of Dante while incorporating the intricate floral and geometric motifs associated with Oaxacan wood carvings. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the franchise for its faithful recreation of the film's climactic visual style, serving as a standout piece within the broader Coco-themed collection.
