Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Hockey series, this figure depicts Alex Ovechkin, the long-time captain of the Washington Capitals and one of the most prolific goal-scorers in National Hockey League history. Funko introduced the line to capture the rising popularity of collectible sports figures, aiming to translate the energetic and aggressive playing style of NHL stars into the company's signature stylized, vinyl aesthetic.
The figure features Ovechkin in the classic Washington Capitals home jersey, reflecting the brand's approach of focusing on iconic franchise players who define their respective eras. While Funko's design language is consistent across their catalog, these hockey figures were specifically crafted to appeal to sports memorabilia enthusiasts who appreciate the blend of traditional trading card culture with modern, displayable character art.
