Where it came from
The Asuka Pop! figure, number 635, was released as a Summer Convention exclusive within the Funko Pop! Animation line. Representing the iconic pilot of Evangelion Unit-02, the design captures Asuka Langley Soryu in her signature plugsuit, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of the long-running Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. This figure serves as a collectible homage to the character’s legacy in late 20th-century mecha anime, translating the intricate details of her suit into the simplified, stylized vinyl form synonymous with the brand.
The character design was overseen by Funko’s creative team to align with the visual language established by Hideaki Anno and Gainax. By distilling Asuka’s sharp, aggressive personality into the standard Pop! silhouette, the design emphasizes her recognizable red color palette and distinct headpiece. Upon release, the figure was met with enthusiasm from the global anime community, becoming a staple for fans seeking to represent the Evangelion cast within their broader collections.
