Where it came from
Baron Samedi was released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line, specifically commemorating the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die. The figure depicts the film's iconic antagonist, a voodoo loa portrayed by Geoffrey Holder, capturing his distinct top hat, skeletal face paint, and flamboyant cane. It serves as a stylized tribute to the franchise's cinematic history during the Roger Moore era, a period noted for its shift toward more supernatural and blaxploitation-influenced themes within the Bond canon.
The figure was designed with Funko’s signature aesthetic, emphasizing the character’s most recognizable features while scaling them to the standard vinyl figure proportions. As part of a broader series celebrating various Bond villains and allies, it was marketed primarily toward long-term fans of the series and collectors of film memorabilia. Upon its release, it was met with a positive reception from the collecting community, who appreciated the inclusion of a niche, visually striking character from a classic entry in the 007 filmography.
