Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the Batman 80th Anniversary collection, this figure celebrates the iconic visual identity of the 1989 film directed by Tim Burton. The design captures Batman in a bracing pose, paying homage to the sleek, monochromatic aesthetic of the suit created by costume designer Bob Ringwood. This specific Pop! model was intended to honor the cultural milestone of the film, which redefined the character's cinematic presence and introduced a darker, gothic tone to the superhero genre.
Funko’s design team developed the Pop! Heroes series to translate live-action characters into their signature stylized, large-headed aesthetic while maintaining key details like the scalloped cape and yellow oval bat-symbol. The 1989 line was well-received by fans and collectors who appreciated the nod to classic cinema history, effectively bridging the gap between nostalgic memorabilia and modern vinyl collectibility.
