Where it came from
Baxter Stockman was released as part of the Funko Pop! Television series in 2017, coinciding with the broader resurgence of interest in the classic 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. This figure specifically depicts the scientist in his mutated fly form, a fan-favorite antagonist known for his tragic arc and frequent clashes with the Turtles. The figure was produced to cater to long-time fans of the franchise, leaning into the nostalgia of the original toy line and cartoon.
The design draws directly from the classic aesthetic of the 1980s character, emphasizing the grotesque features of the human-fly hybrid. Funko opted for a glow-in-the-dark finish to distinguish this particular variant from standard releases, a common strategy used to appeal to completionist collectors. Upon its release, it was received as a niche addition to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection, often sought after by those who specifically look for the more eclectic or secondary villains within the show's rogues' gallery.
