BB-8

BB-8 was introduced to the Star Wars universe in the 2015 film The Force Awakens as a loyal astromech droid belonging to the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. Designed by concept artist Christian Alzmann under the direction of J.J. Abrams, the character was initially conceptualized as a more traditional droid before evolving into the spherical robot that became an instant cultural icon. Its design intentionally contrasted with the gritty aesthetic of the original trilogy, utilizing a distinct rolling motion that presented significant practical effects challenges during filming.

This Funko Pop! figure, numbered 804 in the Star Wars line, represents the character's transition into the stylized vinyl format characteristic of the brand's aesthetic. Funko has released several iterations of BB-8, but this specific model captures the droid's primary features, including its dome head and circular body, rendered in the oversized head and simplified proportions that define the Pop! aesthetic. Since its debut, the figure has served as a staple for collectors of both Star Wars memorabilia and modern pop culture artifacts.
