Where it came from
Beasty Boyd is a figure from the Funko Pop! Garbage Pail Kids series, released as the fourth entry in the line. This collection pays homage to the original Garbage Pail Kids trading card franchise, which launched in 1985 by Topps as a satirical response to the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. The cards were famous for their grotesque, subversive illustrations and wordplay, crafted by a team of artists including John Pound, who established the brand's signature aesthetic.
The Funko Pop! iteration seeks to translate the two-dimensional, gritty caricature style of the 1980s cards into the brand's distinct three-dimensional vinyl aesthetic. By featuring characters like Beasty Boyd, Funko aimed to capture a sense of nostalgia for fans of 1980s cult pop culture. These figures are generally received by collectors as a blend of modern collectible design and classic subversive humor, maintaining the intentional lack of polish that characterized the source material.
