Where it came from
The Black Manta (Unmasked) Pop! figure, numbered 249 within the Pop! Heroes line, was released to coincide with the 2018 Warner Bros. film Aquaman. As part of the promotional merchandise strategy for the DC Extended Universe, Funko designed this specific variant to capture the likeness of actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who portrayed David Kane, also known as Black Manta, in his live-action debut.
The design highlights the character's transition from his iconic, bug-eyed helmeted appearance to his unmasked state, emphasizing the more grounded, cinematic aesthetic established by the film's production designers. Collectors generally appreciated this variant for its departure from the standard helmeted silhouette, and it remains a staple for fans looking to complete their Aquaman movie collection.
