Bubbles

Bubbles, numbered 230 in the Pop! Digital series, represents a modern pivot in Funko's strategy to bridge traditional vinyl collectability with blockchain-based digital scarcity. Released as part of The Powerpuff Girls Digital Pop! collection, this item was designed to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the classic Cartoon Network series, which premiered in 1998. The digital aesthetic maintains the signature Funko style—oversized heads, large black eyes, and minimalist features—while adapting the character's iconic blue pigtails and dress into a high-fidelity digital render.

The design process for this digital iteration focused on translating the 2D cel-shaded look of Craig McCracken’s original animation into a three-dimensional format that would appeal to nostalgic millennial collectors. Upon its release, the Digital Pop! line faced a complex reception, as it required fans to navigate NFT marketplaces and digital wallets rather than traditional retail channels. Despite the technical barrier, the character of Bubbles remains a highly recognizable staple of late 90s animation, ensuring that her digital representation serves as a thematic continuation of the broader, long-running Powerpuff Girls merchandise legacy.
