Where it came from
The Carl (Remix) figure is part of the Alien Remix series, a creative collaboration between Disney and Funko that launched in 2020. This line reimagines the iconic three-eyed aliens from the Pixar film Toy Story as various beloved characters from across the Disney and Pixar cinematic universe. The Carl figure specifically draws inspiration from the character Carl Fredricksen, the protagonist of the 2009 film Up, adapting his signature glasses, prominent nose, and stoic expression onto the alien's distinct base form.
The design philosophy behind the Alien Remix series focuses on blending the recognizable silhouettes of pop culture icons with the whimsical, uniform aesthetic of the Toy Story aliens. By capturing Carl Fredricksen’s defining elderly features and suit attire in a vinyl format, the figure serves as a humorous tribute to the emotional depth of the original film. It was received as a lighthearted collectible that appealed to fans of both the Pixar franchise and Funko's broader stylized figure culture, highlighting the versatility of the alien character as a canvas for character cosplay.
