Where it came from
Released as part of the initial wave of Funko Pop! figures dedicated to the long-running animated series South Park, this figure represents Eric Cartman, the show's iconic and acerbic protagonist. It was produced to capitalize on the enduring popularity of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's satire, which has maintained a significant cultural footprint since its debut in 1997. The design captures the character's signature red jacket, yellow mittens, and blue hat in the standard stylized, large-headed aesthetic characteristic of the Funko brand.
The figure, numbered 37 in the Pop! Television line, was developed to appeal to the show's dedicated fanbase by distilling its crude, paper-cutout animation style into a collectible vinyl format. While the line has since expanded to include a vast array of characters and variants, this original release remains a baseline for South Park collectors. It received positive reception upon launch for successfully balancing the minimalist Funko design language with the recognizable, simplified features of the animated character.
