Where it came from
Darth Malak was released as part of the Star Wars Pop! collection in 2021, representing a significant expansion of the Funko line into the deeper Expanded Universe, specifically the beloved video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This figure captures the character's iconic appearance, featuring his distinctive jaw-covering prosthetic, red-tinted eyes, and stark crimson Sith robes, which were originally conceptualized by the art team at BioWare for the 2003 release of the game.
The design of the figure translates the character’s intimidating, sharp-angled aesthetic into Funko's signature stylized vinyl format. It was released to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Old Republic era of Star Wars storytelling. Upon its launch, the figure was well-received by fans of the original game who had long waited for collectible merchandise representing the Sith Lord, marking a shift in the Pop! line toward honoring legacy characters from classic RPG titles.
