Where it came from
The Darth Vader #597 figure was released by Funko as part of the Star Wars Pop! series commemorating the 45th anniversary of A New Hope. The design reflects the company’s signature aesthetic, which translates iconic cinematic characters into stylized vinyl figures with oversized heads and simplified features. This particular iteration features a black base, a subtle variant detail that distinguishes it from earlier standard releases in the Star Wars lineup.
Funko’s design team developed this figure to evoke the classic appearance of the Sith Lord while adhering to the brand's established artistic language. By emphasizing Vader’s helmet profile and iconic chest plate, the creators sought to capture a sense of menace in a miniature, collectible form. Upon its release, the figure was positioned to appeal to long-time collectors seeking a specific milestone variant, serving as both a tribute to the franchise's legacy and a standard entry in the vast Pop! catalog.
