Where it came from
The Darth Vader Black Chrome figure was released as part of the Funko Pop! Star Wars line, specifically tied to the promotional efforts surrounding the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This variant was designed to commemorate the iconic character's appearance in the film, utilizing a distinct metallic black chrome finish to emphasize his imposing aesthetic. It emerged during a period of significant expansion for the Star Wars vinyl figure series, catering to a growing market of collectors who sought exclusive variations of core franchise characters.
The design process focused on translating the classic Vader silhouette into the hallmark Funko aesthetic while introducing a premium surface treatment. By opting for a reflective chrome finish, the designers intended to elevate the collectible status of the item, distinguishing it from standard matte releases. Upon its debut, the figure was generally well-received by the collecting community for its unique finish, becoming a notable example of the trend toward limited-edition metallic variants that characterized mid-2010s pop culture merchandise.
