Where it came from
This Funko Pop figure, numbered 234 in the DC Super Heroes line, depicts Death as she appears in Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Vertigo comic series, The Sandman. Released as part of Funko's effort to expand their reach into more mature or niche comic book properties, the figure captures the iconic look of the character established by artists like Mike Dringenberg and Sam Kieth. Her design, characterized by her casual goth attire, distinct eye makeup, and the silver Ankh necklace, served as a departure from traditional superhero aesthetics, reflecting the literary and moody tone of the source material.
The figure was well-received by fans of the Vertigo imprint, who appreciated the attention to the character's unique visual style within the recognizable Funko aesthetic. By including Death in the broader DC-branded series, the company acknowledged the character's enduring popularity and her integral role in the expanded DC multiverse. The design successfully translates a complex, philosophical character into a simplified vinyl form, maintaining her recognizable silhouette while adhering to the standard proportions of the Pop! Heroes line.
