Where it came from
The Funko Pop! vinyl figure of Dr. Ian Malcolm, numbered 33 in the Pop! Conan series, was released as a promotional tie-in during the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con. The item features Conan O'Brien dressed as Jeff Goldblum’s iconic character from the 1993 film Jurassic Park, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the franchise. It emerged from a collaborative effort between Funko and Team Coco to produce limited-edition figures depicting the late-night host in various costumes.
The design choice to cast Conan O'Brien in the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm centers on the character's memorable scene of lounging with an unbuttoned shirt, which has become a staple of internet culture. Funko’s design team captured the host’s likeness while incorporating the signature aesthetic of the Jurassic Park character. The figure was met with significant enthusiasm from both fans of the Conan O'Brien show and collectors of the broader Jurassic Park commemorative merchandise line.
