Dr. Ochanomizu (Flocked)

Dr. Ochanomizu, the benevolent mentor from Osamu Tezuka’s seminal manga and anime Astro Boy, was immortalized as part of the Pop! Asia series, specifically number 47. This release arrived as part of Funko’s efforts to expand its aesthetic reach into international markets, celebrating the foundational influence of Tezuka’s work on the global manga canon. The figure was produced with a flocked texture, a design choice intended to give the character’s signature mustache and hair a soft, tactile quality that evokes the charm of classic mid-century animation.

The design draws directly from the classic anime iteration of the character, capturing his recognizable lab coat and oversized spectacles. As a member of the Pop! Asia line, this figure was crafted to resonate with collectors who value regional variants and character-specific details that differentiate them from standard domestic releases. Upon its introduction, it was received as a respectful tribute to one of the most essential figures in the Astro Boy universe, appealing to both long-time fans of the source material and those interested in the broader history of Japanese cultural exports.
