Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line, this figure represents Gizmo, the iconic Mogwai from Joe Dante's 1984 film Gremlins. The design leans into the character's signature wide-eyed, innocent aesthetic, utilizing a flocked texture to replicate the appearance of his fur. This specific treatment distinguishes the figure from standard vinyl releases by providing a tactile, fuzzy finish that aligns with the tactile nature of the original practical puppet used in the movie.
Funko introduced the flocked Gizmo to cater to collectors who appreciate sensory details in their figures. The design process focused on translating the creature's complex, puppet-based features into the simplified, oversized-head silhouette characteristic of the Pop! brand. Upon its release, the figure was met with enthusiasm from fans of 1980s cinema, serving as both a nostalgia piece for those who grew up with the film and a recognizable staple in the broader pop culture collecting landscape.
