Where it came from
The Gohan (with Sword) figure, numbered 621 in the Pop! Animation series, captures the character from his training period during the Saiyan Saga of Dragon Ball Z. As a prototype, this item represents an early stage in the manufacturing process, typically used by Funko to evaluate paint applications and sculpt integrity before mass production. Such models are often retained by internal design teams or distributed to select partners, making them distinct from the standard retail releases that arrived on shelves as part of the broader Dragon Ball Z collection.
The design of this figure leans into the iconic aesthetic established by Akira Toriyama, emphasizing Gohan's youthful appearance and the distinctive sword gifted to him by Piccolo. The Funko design team aimed to balance the stylized, oversized head proportions characteristic of the brand with the specific combat gear Gohan wore while honing his survival skills in the wilderness. Upon its wide release, the figure was well-received by fans of the franchise for its faithful representation of a formative chapter in the character's narrative arc.
