Guan Yu, the revered general from the Three Kingdoms period, was released as part of the Pop! Asia series, which aimed to bring figures of historical and cultural significance from across the continent into Funko's signature stylized aesthetic. As number 24 in the Asia line, this gold variant serves as a celebratory homage to the deity, who is widely honored in Chinese folk religion and literature as a symbol of loyalty, justice, and protection.

The design draws heavily on traditional depictions of the general, characterized by his flowing robes, iconic long beard, and fierce expression. By casting the figure in a metallic gold finish, Funko intentionally shifted the piece from a standard action figure aesthetic toward the appearance of a commemorative statuette, reflecting the reverent way the historical figure is often portrayed in shrines and personal collections throughout East Asia.
