Where it came from
Gumby, the iconic green clay humanoid, originated as the star of Art Clokey's 1950s experimental short film Gumbasia and later the television series The Gumby Show. His design, characterized by his distinctive slanted head and pliable appearance, was inspired by Art's experiments with stop-motion animation and the concept of a figure that could embody limitless transformation. The character became a fixture of mid-century American pop culture, celebrated for his gentle, imaginative adventures.
This Funko Pop! Television figure, numbered 949, was released to honor the enduring legacy of Clokey's creation. The design team aimed to capture Gumby's classic aesthetic within the signature stylized Funko form, complete with his neutral expression and iconic hue. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the original stop-motion series and collectors of animation-related memorabilia who appreciated the nod to the claymation pioneer.
