Gus (Haunted Mansion) (Error Box)

Gus, the prisoner-clad ghost from Disney's Haunted Mansion, was released as part of the Funko Pop! Disney series, specifically within the expansive Haunted Mansion line. This figure features the iconic character holding his signature ball and chain, capturing the whimsical yet spooky aesthetic of the attraction's Hitchhiking Ghosts. The item is particularly noted by collectors for its status as an 'error box' release, where the character name or numbering on the packaging did not align with the intended internal labeling, a phenomenon occasionally seen during the high-velocity production cycles of the early Pop! Disney collections.

The design of the figure draws directly from the 1969 debut of the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland, which was masterminded by legendary Disney Imagineers including Marc Davis. The character’s visual identity—a rotund, bearded ghost in striped prison garb—was crafted to translate the ride's playful frights into a stylized, vinyl medium. Upon release, the Haunted Mansion series was met with significant enthusiasm from theme park devotees and toy collectors, who valued the accuracy of the character's translation from the attraction's dark, atmospheric environments to the clean, simplified lines of the Funko brand.
