Hodor

Released in 2013 as part of the initial wave of Funko's Game of Thrones Pop! vinyl figures, this piece represents the gentle giant Hodor, a beloved character from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series and its HBO adaptation. The figure was produced during Funko's early expansion into the television merchandise market, capturing the character's signature burlap tunic and weary, stoic expression. It served as a companion to early releases like Daenerys Targaryen and Ned Stark, aiming to bring the grim fantasy world of Westeros into the stylized, chibi-inspired aesthetic that defined the company’s burgeoning brand identity.

The design process for these early figures prioritized recognizable silhouette elements, such as Hodor's simple brown garments and his height-dominating posture, to create an accessible collectible for the show's rapidly growing fanbase. As part of the first fifteen items in the wider television category, the Hodor figure became a staple for collectors, gaining retrospective significance following the character's pivotal role in later seasons. It is widely considered a foundational piece of the Game of Thrones collection, reflecting the transition of the show from a niche cultural phenomenon into a global merchandising powerhouse.
