Where it came from
The Holographic Emperor Palpatine figure, numbered 40 in the Star Wars Pop! line, was produced by Funko as a convention exclusive for the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. It represents the character as he appears through the spectral, blue-tinted projection in The Empire Strikes Back, reflecting a significant moment in the franchise where the Sith Lord communicates across the galaxy. The design utilizes a translucent blue vinyl to mimic the visual effect of a holographic transmission, a stylistic choice that became a popular motif within Funko's broader character offerings.
This figure was released during a period of rapid expansion for the Star Wars Pop! collection, aligning with the anticipation surrounding the return of the film franchise to theaters. As a convention exclusive, it was initially limited in distribution, which contributed to its status as a sought-after piece among collectors of Star Wars memorabilia. The design, characterized by the character's hooded silhouette and recognizable pose, was intended to evoke the specific atmosphere of the Emperor's shadowy appearances in the original trilogy.
