Where it came from
Jay Decay is part of the Funko Pop! Garbage Pail Kids series, released as the sixth figure in the line. The Garbage Pail Kids originated in 1985 as a satirical trading card series by Topps, created to parody the immensely popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. By subverting the wholesome aesthetic of the 1980s toy market with grotesque, pun-heavy illustrations, the brand became a cultural touchstone for subversive humor.
The Funko interpretation translates the classic hand-painted aesthetic of the original trading cards into the distinct vinyl figure format. Design-wise, the figure captures the iconic, decaying character in a simplified, bobble-head style that maintains the grim visual gags central to the Garbage Pail Kids identity. The series was designed to appeal to nostalgic collectors who grew up with the original stickers, receiving a positive reception for its faithful transition of legendary artwork into the modern vinyl collectible space.
