Where it came from
Li Shang was released as part of the Funko Pop! Disney series, numbered 631, representing the commanding officer from the 1998 animated film Mulan. The figure was produced to coincide with the broader expansion of the Disney collection, which sought to translate iconic characters into Funko's signature stylized vinyl aesthetic. By this point in the line's history, Funko focused on capturing the defining attributes of characters through simplified shapes and bold coloring, ensuring the figure remained instantly recognizable to fans of the original animation.
The design of the Li Shang figure reflects his appearance in the film's military training sequences, featuring his distinct blue and gold officer armor. Funko's design team prioritized these specific color blocking choices to distinguish him from other characters in the Mulan set. The release was met with steady interest from collectors of the Disney series, serving as a staple piece for those aiming to complete their representation of the film's primary cast members.
