Where it came from
The Mayor Pop! Train figure was released as part of the Pop! Trains series, a specialized line from Funko that expands their traditional vinyl figures into interconnected display pieces. This piece commemorates the character from Tim Burton’s 1993 stop-motion classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas, depicting the character inside his iconic, dual-faced vehicle. The design choice to pair characters with stylized train cars was intended to create a cohesive, modular display set for collectors of the franchise.
Funko’s design team utilized their signature aesthetic to translate the Mayor’s distinctively angular, cartoonish features into the Pop! form factor. The series was developed to bridge the gap between static vinyl collecting and model train enthusiasts, focusing on thematic accuracy to the film’s macabre, whimsical aesthetic. Upon release, the set was received as a novel expansion for Nightmare Before Christmas completionists, serving as both a character collectible and a functional piece of franchise-themed shelf decor.
