Where it came from
Mia Thermopolis, numbered 1732 in the Pop! Disney line, represents the titular protagonist from the 2001 film The Princess Diaries. Produced by Funko, the figure commemorates the character’s evolution from an awkward San Francisco teenager into the crown princess of Genovia. The design captures her iconic transformation look, featuring her signature school uniform and glasses, acknowledging the enduring cultural impact of the Garry Marshall-directed film based on Meg Cabot’s novels.
Funko’s stylized interpretation of Mia is part of a broader push to capture nostalgic properties that have gained significant internet-driven popularity in recent years. The figure is designed with the standard Pop! aesthetic, emphasizing the character's relatable, everyday appearance before her formal royal transition. Collectors of the Disney series frequently view this piece as a representation of Y2K-era cinema, fitting into the company’s strategy of documenting iconic live-action film characters alongside their traditional animated library.
