Where it came from
The Funko Pop! VHS Covers series was launched to celebrate iconic horror and cinema history by pairing a standard Pop! figure with a stylized display backdrop inspired by classic VHS home video packaging. This specific release, number 14, commemorates the 1978 slasher masterpiece Halloween. It depicts Michael Myers in his signature mechanic’s jumpsuit and white mask, positioned against a backdrop that recreates the film's original iconic VHS cover art, emphasizing the transition of the film from theaters to the burgeoning home video market of the 1980s.
The design seeks to evoke a sense of nostalgia for the video rental era, featuring the character encased in a protective hard display case that mimics a plastic clamshell box. Funko’s design team opted for the familiar aesthetic of the 1978 promotional material to ground the figure in the film's origins. Upon its release, the item was marketed toward horror enthusiasts and cinema memorabilia collectors who appreciate the blend of modern vinyl toy aesthetics with the tactile, vintage appeal of physical media packaging.
