Where it came from
Monokuma, the iconic antagonist of the Danganronpa series, was immortalized as Funko Pop number 1066 as part of the Pop! Animation line. The character originated in the 2010 visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc before appearing in the 2016 anime series The End of Hope's Peak High School. As the self-proclaimed headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, the character serves as a mascot of chaotic nihilism, juxtaposing a cute, teddy bear aesthetic with a sinister, split-faced design.
The Funko design team maintained the character's signature asymmetrical look, featuring one side as a pristine white bear and the other as a jagged, crimson-eyed antagonist. By capturing the character’s hallmark grin and stark color contrast, the figure appeals to fans of the series' dark psychological themes. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors of anime-themed vinyl figures for its accurate representation of the franchise's most recognizable visual element.
