Where it came from
Mr. Met was introduced as the first live-action mascot in Major League Baseball in 1964, designed to bridge the gap between the franchise and its fans as the team transitioned to Shea Stadium. The character, with his signature oversized baseball head, became an enduring icon of New York sports culture. Funko later integrated this mascot into their Pop! MLB series, casting the character in his classic home uniform aesthetic to appeal to baseball enthusiasts and vinyl toy collectors alike.
The Funko Pop! iteration of Mr. Met, numbered 02, serves as a minimalist representation of the mascot's iconic design. As part of the early MLB collection, the figure utilizes the standard Pop! stylized proportions, featuring the character's distinct stitched seams and wide grin. The design captures the nostalgic charm of the mascot, which has been received as a staple piece for sports-themed collections since its release.
