Where it came from
Oryx, the Taken King, was released as part of the Pop! Games line to commemorate the 2015 expansion of the same name for the video game Destiny. This figure, numbered 238 in the collection, was designed to translate the intimidating, towering aesthetic of the Hive deity into the stylized, oversized-head silhouette characteristic of Funko's design language. It captures the character’s signature chitinous armor and wings, reflecting the central role Oryx played as the primary antagonist during a significant era of the game's live-service development.
The figure emerged during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its presence within the gaming community, focusing on translating complex digital character models into physical vinyl collectibles. As a representation of a major raid boss, the item was marketed toward dedicated players of the Destiny franchise. It was received as a standard addition to the growing range of Bungie-licensed merchandise, appealing to fans who sought to decorate their shelves with characters from the game’s expanding lore.
