Where it came from
Phil is a character from the Despicable Me franchise, appearing as one of the iconic Minions. Funko released this particular Pop figure in 2015 as part of the Minions series, which coincided with the broader marketing push for the Minions feature film. The design captures Phil in his signature blue overalls and goggles, reflecting the whimsical, slapstick aesthetic that propelled the Minions to global recognition following their debut in the 2010 Despicable Me film.
The figure was produced during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its Disney and Universal Studios licensing agreements. Designers aimed to translate the exaggerated, oval-shaped anatomy of the Minions into the standard Pop silhouette, emphasizing oversized eyes and expressive, simple features. While the Minions line became a massive commercial success for the company, it also highlighted the studio's ability to turn minor supporting characters into highly sought-after collectibles.
