Where it came from
The Presnel Kimpembe Pop! figure, numbered 36 in the Pop! Football series, was released by Funko to commemorate the Paris Saint-Germain central defender. It represents the manufacturer's effort to expand its reach within global sports culture, specifically targeting the immense fanbase of French football and the UEFA Champions League. The design captures the player in the club's iconic blue home kit, complete with the signature aesthetic traits and simplified proportions characteristic of the Pop! vinyl line.
The figure emerged during a period of significant growth for Funko's sports category, which sought to bridge the gap between traditional sports memorabilia and contemporary character collectibles. By translating Kimpembe's likeness into the stylized, large-headed format, the design team focused on recognizable branding and team identity rather than hyper-realistic portraiture. As with most figures in this series, it was received primarily as a celebratory piece for dedicated PSG supporters and collectors of football-themed vinyl figures.
