Where it came from
Released as part of the Pop! Movies series by Funko, this figure depicts Prince Akeem Joffer from the 1988 classic comedy Coming to America. The design captures the protagonist in his iconic McDowell’s fast-food uniform, complete with the golden-arched apron and striped hat. The figure was produced to celebrate the film's enduring cultural legacy and the persistent popularity of its most recognizable visual motifs.
The character design reflects the transition of the prince from his royal life in Zamunda to his humble, undercover beginnings in Queens, New York. Funko opted for this specific look to resonate with fans of the film's most memorable sequence, focusing on the whimsical and nostalgic aesthetic of the 1980s. Upon release, it was warmly received by collectors who appreciated the faithful recreation of Eddie Murphy’s character in the company's signature stylized form.
