Provenance

Where it came from

Released as a 2012 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, this Funko Pop! figure depicts Princess Leia Organa alongside R2-D2 in a translucent blue 'holographic' finish. This variant was designed to capture the iconic scene from A New Hope where Leia records her distress signal for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The figure belongs to the early era of the Star Wars Pop! line, characterized by a more simplistic aesthetic compared to later iterations.

The figure was produced during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its presence at major conventions, establishing the 'SDCC Exclusive' as a highly sought-after collectible tier. By utilizing clear, monochromatic plastic to represent the hologram, the design team aimed to evoke the specific visual style of early 1980s special effects. It was received with significant enthusiasm by the growing community of vinyl collectors, quickly becoming a staple of Star Wars-themed displays due to its unique appearance.
