Where it came from
Roman Sionis, also known as Black Mask, was released as part of the Funko Pop! Heroes line, numbered 306, to coincide with the 2020 film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The figure depicts the primary antagonist in his signature sharp suit, reflecting the film's aesthetic focus on high-fashion criminal underworld tropes. This entry was produced during a period when Funko was aggressively expanding its DC Comics line to capture the visual identity of the growing cinematic universe.
The design of the figure leans into the sleek, menacing style favored by director Cathy Yan for the character. By capturing the character in his tailored attire rather than his iconic skull mask, the figure highlights the human element of the villain as portrayed by Ewan McGregor. The figure was received by collectors as a standard addition to the DC movie-themed sets, noted for its relatively clean sculpt and adherence to the specific color palette of the film's promotional material.
