Where it came from
Saori Kido, the reincarnation of the goddess Athena, was released as part of the Pop! Animation line to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac franchise. Created by Masami Kurumada in the 1980s, the series follows young warriors known as Saints who fight to protect humanity. This figure captures the character's regal essence, reflecting her pivotal role as the guiding figure for the Bronze Saints in their battles against forces of evil.
The design of this Funko figure emphasizes the character's iconic appearance, featuring her flowing purple hair and signature elegant attire. Funko’s design team aimed to translate Kurumada's aesthetic into their distinct stylized format while maintaining the grace associated with a deity. Upon its release, the figure was welcomed by long-time fans of the series, serving as a nostalgic addition to collections dedicated to classic 1980s anime.
