Where it came from
The Sophia Petrillo Pop! Pez dispenser was released as part of Funko’s collaboration with the classic confectionery brand PEZ. This item draws its inspiration from the beloved character Sophia Petrillo, portrayed by Estelle Getty, from the iconic 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls. The design captures Sophia’s signature aesthetic, featuring her trademark oversized glasses and handheld purse, rendered in the stylized vinyl form that defines the Pop! aesthetic.
This collectible arrived during a period of significant expansion for the Pop! line as Funko sought to bridge the gap between retro pop culture iconography and contemporary toy collecting trends. By reimagining television history through the modular format of a Pez dispenser, the design team aimed to balance nostalgia for the Golden Girls’ sharp wit with the tactile, interactive nature of the PEZ brand. The figure was met with positive reception from fans of the show, who appreciated the attention to character-specific details within such a compact format.
